TRYOUTS
The HKFC academy holds yearly tryouts for selection into the Youth Development Pathway program (YDP). The tryouts are posted on social media, players are also recommended by our partner clubs in Hong Kong. All of the players attending are expected to attend at least two tryouts before a decision is made. Once a player has been selected for the YDP, they will be considered for selection to represent the HKFC in either the Jockey Club Youth League (U13-U18), Elite Youth League (U13-U18), the Colts U23 (Yau Yee Adult League) team and if recommended by the coach the HKFC senior first team or senior 2nd team, Lucky Mile.
SELECTION
Technical ability and game intelligence are the key attributes we look for in identifying a players potential, playing positions are also taken into account. Physicality will be considered in playing a player up an age group or if the player is considered physically ready to represent one of the senior teams. The players and parents will be contacted by the Team Manager to confirm their selection. The player will only be asked to play up an age if we feel it is better for the players’ development pathway.
DESELCTION
The following process is followed if a player is deselected, deselected players would have played for the HKFC in a previous season.
Deselected from the HKFC Elite Youth Team.
Offered a place in HKFC Jockey Club Youth Team
Deselected from the HKFC Jockey Club Youth Team.
Offered a place in the Lucky Mile Jockey Club Youth Team
Deselected from the Lucky Mile Jockey Club Youth Team.
Offered a trial at other clubs competing in the Jockey Club Youth League
AFTER U18
Once a player can longer represent the academy we have options for the player to represent the HKFC senior first team, the Colts U23 team and the Lucky Mile senior team if selected. We also have junior coaching positions for players that want to stay involved in training the youth players.
